Saturday was an eventful day for us. We found our house (See yesterday's post), went to a backyard barbeque for one of Kate's high school friends who just got her Master's Degree in English. We were also invited by one of my college friends who works or the local Spanish radio station to go to the Real Salt Lake game. Not only did we get to sit in the suite, but we got some free Famous Dave's as well. (Don't ask me why we were invited and the tickets weren't used on clients. In all my years of tailgating and sitting in suites, in large part thanks to my dad, I've learned never to ask questions but to mainly act as if you belong. Isn't that the case with most things you do in life?)
However, the treat of the night was not the free food or comfy leather sofas, but rather the game itself. Here are a few of my observations:
We were very fortunate to get to see Real SL face off against David Beckam and the LA Galaxy. Bend it? Boy did he ever. Beckam had 2 Goals! And, looked good while doing it!
Hispanic Marketing- Who knew Hispanics loved KFC and KSL TV so much? It seemed the stadium was plastered with the Colonel's logo all over the place.
Body Bags- "The Truth" did a campaign in the South end zone. They had a sign that said "440,000 die of smoking every year," in Spanish. Throughout the game, they brought out 440 body bags one at a time. It is yet to be determined what were in the bags (Last weeks team, if you ask me?), but it seemed an interested, yet odd and morbid promotion.
Soccer is more fun to watch with Hispanics. Our suite was pretty dull, until 3 Peruvian ladies showed up. They were whoopin' and a hollerin' in Spanish the entire game. I didn't understand em' but they were cheerin or ooh-ing and aah-ing about every pass, foul, and shot.
Real Salt Lake games are like Disneyland. Everything is repeated in English and Spanish.
They have these drummers that sit in the South End Zone (next to the body bags) that play the drums the entire game! This seems like more of a work out than even playing the game itself.
The game ended in a 2-2 tie... A 2 to 2 tie?! What other game ends in a tie? Kind of stupid in my opinion. "We're all winners here! Did you have fun? Than you won!
So, would I go again? Probably. Would I pay to go again? Maybe... one day. Would I pay more than $10 a ticket to go again? No. But, we definitely had a blast. Beckam pulled off his shirt (Kate was waiting for this all night) after the game and waved to the crowd and signed some autographs. Overall, a fun time!~
